MAPA

The Map was made with the collaboration of the inhabitants of Quinta da Vitória neighborhood, reconfiguring its geography, inexistent in major maps of the city of Lisbon, and in the maps of Municipality of Loures. In these maps this neighborhood is represented by a wasteland, an empty space without houses.

For this reason. we recreated the map of Quinta da Vitória with the collaboration of the inhabitants. Together we drew the houses and streets and introduced the names of the streets named by its inhabitants, we pin it on the map photographs of the objects given by inhabitants, phrases with stories of their identities, photographs of the trees and vegetable gardens, and news about the neighborhood, most of the themes giving a negative image of Quinta da Vitória, associating it with crime and violence.

“And there was a day that I traveled and did not know that the house was going to be broken. When I came, my father said that their house was going to be broken. After in the morning, I came to say goodbye to him, and when I arrived, the house was already broken, full of garbage. Then I left the place into tears. And then I saw my friend and she asked, what was it, and I said: "Maria's house is already broken". And she said "already!" Then she started to cry with me. And we were both playing alone.”

“... This had maize, or what it was ... we came here and we started to eat ... but those leaves didn´t exist yet, because these leaves began to grow ... always, when a house is broken. Then, they begin to grow flowers and plants.”
